Adventure Dev Log: Takedown in Turkey Town Beats

When coming up with the idea of a Thanksgiving Adventure.  I thought about what beats would I like the participants to have. My initial list was something as follows:

  • Battling a giant Turkey
  • Food coming to life
  • A kitchen run by a rat (yes this is the Ratatouille movie.  I just recently saw it for the first time and loved it)
  • Something to do with a cornucopia

My initial ideas were something like, players eat from  a cursed cornucopia and shrink down to the size of rats… yadda yadda yadda …its Ratatouille.

I had another idea that was interesting in which there was a big party at the mayor’s mansion.  Everyone ate from the cornucopia which promptly put them to sleep.  Once asleep the dreamers nightmares began coming to life and threatening the town.  In order to save the town, the players had to eat from the cornucopia and enter the dreamworld to defeat whatever was making this happen.

It was very much like Inception.  I think it has some potential, just not as a Thanksgiving adventure.  It’s just too weird.

So I thought about other Thanksgiving movies and one scene from the movie New Jack City sparked my imagination.  In that scene Nino Brown, a powerful local gangster played by Wesley Snipes, went out of his compound and started feeding the poor people in the neighborhood a Thanksgiving meal.   The movie as I remember is good and Wesley Snipes played up the almost twisted Robin Hood of the scene really well.

That was it.  I kind of mixed the sleeping people part with the scene and got the idea.  Nino Biggs (from the adventure) wants to gain some influence with the people of New Jak.  So he feeds them Thanksgiving from his cornucopia and suddenly they all start passing out and food nightmares start appearing.  He flees back to his keep and the players are tasked with recovering or destroying the cornucopia.
